Research & Scholarship

research_perio1The primary research focus of the department is on basic, applied, and translational science involving bone and periodontal regeneration. Research in the areas of regeneration and reconstructive surgery will strengthen clinical care and compliment ongoing clinical studies evaluating dental implants. A secondary research focus is on modifiable risk factors. The translation of basic knowledge into new evidence-based clinical therapies is central to advancing oral health in the community.

The department currently has ongoing projects with investigators at other institutions, including The Johns Hopkins University and Rutgers University, and receives funding through private and public agencies, including the National Institutes of Health. Faculty members actively contribute peer-reviewed publications to journals in the basic and clinical sciences.
