The Ethical Use of Artificial Intelligence in Dentistry
This two-part lecture will begin with a short history of AI and review of AI research published by UMSOD faculty. We will then introduce recognized principles of the ethical use of AI. The second half of the presentation will focus on several real-world scenarios of ethical dilemmas encountered while using dental AI in light of how ADA AI standards can inform dentists on proper usage of the technology.
Course Objectives:
At the end of the course, participants should be able to:
- Define the main components of AI software
- Name the principles of the ethical use of AI in dentistry
- Discuss the advantages, and possible pitfalls, of using AI in dentistry
