Welcome to the Dental Hygiene Program
The University of Maryland experience is a true four-year bachelor's experience. The campus and initiatives provide the dental hygiene student with a plethora of experiences to enhance their knowledge and skill levels.
Housed at the University of Maryland School of Dentistry, the program provides a state of the art teaching facility, innovative faculty and cutting edge technology in a professional networking environment. Being on the founding campus affords our students opportunities on a professional campus, located in Baltimore which serves its neighboring communities in various outreach activities answering the call to serve all Marylanders. The UMB campus provides interprofessional learning opportunities which combine medicine and dentistry to provide comprehensive overall care to patients, thus enhancing education of the health professional.
The Division of Dental Hygiene offers the only bachelor of science dental hygiene program in Maryland. UMSOD offers the baccalaureate (BS) degree for students seeking to become dental hygienists at the BS level, and the degree completion program for dental hygienists who earned their AS degree and desire their BS degree. The Dental Hygiene Program and the Master's of Public Health program through the School of Medicine's Department of Epidemiology and Public Health has created an accelerated BS to MPH program for our undergraduate students to "jump start" their graduate level of study in the public health arena.
Our School of Nursing's CNL (Clinical Nurse Leader Masters) has teamed up for a dual degree BSDH-CNL, Students in our program can begin this graduate program in their senior year and graduate with a master's degree and be a dental hygienist and a nurse!!
Interprofessional learning is a staple of the UMB campus and embraced in our dental hygiene program. Answering the call to integrate medicine and dentistry, the dental hygiene program hs enhanced coursework and collaborations so that our students are cutting edge, 21st century health care providers.
