Michael Eggnatz, 2018 Distinguished Public Service Alumni of the Year
This award recognizes professional leadership and service to the University of Maryland School of Dentistry and the community. In its second year, the award honors Michael D. Eggnatz, DDS '88, for his leadership, service, and contributions to organized dentistry.‌

Eggnatz has practiced aesthetic, implant, and restorative dentistry for more than 30 years in South Florida and has held several leadership roles. He is now serving as the president of the Florida Dental Association (FDA), and is past president of the South Broward Dental Society and the South Florida District Dental Association. Before becoming president of the FDA, he served the association as a trustee, a Government Affairs Committee member and a 17th District delegate and alternate to the American Dental Association House of Delegates. He has been an FDA House of Delegate member since 1997. In addition, Eggnatz is a fellow of the American College of Dentists, the International College of Dentists, and The Pierre Fauchard Academy.

Eggnatz received his bachelor’s degree from Florida State University, his DDS from the University of Maryland School of Dentistry, and his certificate in general practice from the Jackson Memorial Hospital/Veterans Administration Medical Center at the Miller School of Medicine at the University of Miami. He comes from a long line of UMSOD alumni:  his father, Lee Eggnatz earned his DDS in 1958, and grandfather, Meyer Eggnatz, earned his DDS in 1928.
