Suzanne Burgee, MSDH, RDH

Professional headshot of Suzy BurgeeSuzanne has an impressive 25-year career in the healthcare industry, where she has gained extensive experience and knowledge in various areas including dental assisting, nonsurgical periodontal therapy, practice management, pharmacology, special needs, emergency medical care, community and public health, health disparity and social justice, course design, and distance education. Suzanne has earned several certifications, including EMT, rescue technician, and firefighter through the Maryland Fire and Rescue Institute, as well as dental assisting and radiology from the Maryland State Dental Association. She holds a BSDH degree from the University of Maryland School of Dentistry (UMSOD) and an MSDH degree from Old Dominion University. Suzanne lectures for health science programs and professional organizations throughout Maryland and is an active member and the Council for Dental Hygiene Practice for the Maryland Dental Hygienists Association. In her current role as the academic program director for the dental hygiene division, she has implemented innovative uses of technology for teaching applications and student assessment, mentoring student-developed continuing education courses that meet the standard of the Maryland State Board of Dental Examiners and updating curriculum to support the changing scope of practice for dental hygienists. Her contributions to the continuing education programs offered at UMSOD include courses in pharmacology, prescribing and administration of medications certification for dental hygienists, glucose testing and monitoring, clinical implications of vaping, and treating patients on the autism spectrum.  Suzanne’s research interests include the investigation of off-label drug use, drug therapy for pain management, inflammatory diseases, neurotransmitter and hormone imbalance, drug delivery systems, and the clinical applications of herbal/nutraceutical drugs.
