Oksana Mishler, RDH, MS

mishler_oksanaOksana Mishler, RDH, MS is a clinical instructor in the Department of Periodontics. She came to the School of Dentistry as a practicing dental hygienist, and graduated with a baccalaureate degree in dental hygiene in 2009, with a leadership award. Oksana continued to pursue her career as a dental hygiene educator at UMSOD. She received a teacher development program award from the Dental Hygiene Graduate Program, and represented the program on her trip to Vietnam with Operation Smile in 2009. After gaining experience in various didactic and clinical dental hygiene courses, Oksana became a dental hygiene faculty member in January, 2011. She was selected as the Teacher of the Year by the junior dental hygiene class in both 2010 and 2012, and by the senior dental hygiene class in 2012.

Oksana is a member of Sigma Phi Alpha, the National Dental Hygiene Honor Society. Her research interest and publications are in the field of periodontal maintenance in HIV-positive adults and implant maintenance. She was a Dentsply Graduate Student Clinicians Research Recipient at the American Dental Hygienists’ Association in 2012, and a poster presenter at the American Association for Dental Research in 2014. Oksana was one of President Perman’s Civility Fellows in the academic year 2012-2013, and was actively engaged in identifying how the University of Maryland, Baltimore can instill civility as a core value on it’s multicultural, interprofessional campus. She is currently participating in a faculty development program related to simulation and interprofessional education.
