Speaker Biography

Arthur H. Jeske, DMD, PhDArthur H. Jeske, DMD, PhD, is the Associate Dean for Strategic Planning and Continuing Dental Dducation and a professor in the Department of General Practice and Dental Public Health at The University of Texas School of Dentistry at Houston. He earned his PhD in pharmacology and DMD from the Medical College of Georgia. He is a member of the American Dental Association (ADA), Texas Dental Association, and Greater Houston Dental Society and is a fellow of the International College of Dentistry and the American College of Dentistry. Dr. Jeske chaired the ADA's Council on Scientific Affairs in 2004 and has authored numerous articles on the use of drugs in dentistry. He is currently editor-in-chief of Mosby's Dental Drug Reference and an editor of Contemporary Dental Pharmacology.

Course Description

An update on current issues focusing on biologic agents (monoclonal antibodies), pain management and antibiotic therapy.

Course Objectives

At the conclusion of this course, participants will be able to:

  1. Assess modifications to dental treatment for patients taking biologic agents
  2. Select drugs for pain based on current scientific evidence
  3. Understand the indications for various antibiotics for the management of odontogenic infections and for antibiotic prophylaxis
