Welcome to the University of Maryland School of Dentistry!
Orientation is scheduled for Tuesday, July 1 - Wednesday, July 2, 2025, so please be sure that you will be settled in Baltimore prior to July 1st. Attendance at orientation is mandatory. Dress code for orientation is business casual.
To prepare you to enter the University of Maryland School of Dentistry residency program, we have created this web site specifically for you. It contains information you will need to matriculate this July. It is essential that you read all the material, follow all the links and provide us with the requested information.

The following information is essential for a smooth transition to the University of Maryland, School of Dentistry. Please take the time to thoroughly read and complete the requested information and return all required forms to the appropriate offices. Please feel free to contact the Office of Admissions with any questions or concerns.

Important Information
Orientation Schedule and SCRUBS from FIGS ▾
Orientation will be held on Tuesday, July 1 and Wednesday, July 2, 2025. Attendance at orientation is mandatory. Please be sure to bring a valid ID (Driver's License or UM One Card) with you to orientation. If you have not submitted your official transcripts by this date please have them with you when you check-in.
FIGS SCRUBS
Dear Incoming Resident,
Please follow the process below to order scrubs:
- Visit the ASDA (National chapter) x FIGS partnership landing page: https://www.wearfigs.com/pages/asda
- The entire process is independent from the school, so you can customize your own individual order. FIGS will collect the orders, collect the payment, and deliver your scrubs.
- Please be sure that you are logged in using your @umaryland.edu email address. If you don't have a login on the FIGS website with this address, please create one.
- Once logged in, you will be directed to the University of Maryland collection page: https://wearfigs.com/portals/asda-maryland
- From the collection page, select the styles, colors, sizes directly from the page. Please note, logo embroidery is required on all tops, from selecting the scrub top style, color, size from the collection page, you will see a pop up to add the logo to the tops.
- Finalize and complete your order to receive 25% off and get ready to love your scrubs!
2025-2026 UMSOD colors are as follows:
- Dental Hygiene: moss
- D1: graphite
- D2: royal blue
- D3: burgundy
- D4: black
- Residents: ceil blue
- Faculty: navy blue
By June 30, 2025, your file must contain official transcripts that verify your coursework and degrees received. The degrees you received (bachelor’s, master’s, DDS or DMD) must appear on the official transcript.

If you received your degree at a foreign institution an official copy of your ECE or WES course-by-course evaluation must be submitted.
- An official transcript is one that we receive directly from the institution in a sealed envelope or electronically by electronic transcript services such as Parchment or Clearinghouse, bearing the seal of the registrar. The transcript MUST reflect “Degree Conferred” and the date.

All incoming residents NEW to campus should submit an appropriate photo to the One Card Office in order to obtain your Student ID Card.
All incoming residents NOT NEW to campus should maintain the current One Card that they have and do not need to submit a photo to the one card office. If you destroy your One Card you WILL be charged a replacement fee.
Once you have received an email that indicates your ID card has been made, you may pick up your new card at the SMC Campus Center as scheduled during orientation or at the One Card Office prior to orientation. The One Card Office is located in the SMC Campus Center Building, 621 W. Lombard Street, Lower Level, Room 002. Please remember you must be registered in order for your ID to be made.
Please be sure to log into your SURFS account and update your new local mailing address and emergency contact information prior to orientation.
All incoming residents are required to have CPR Certification.
You must send a copy of the front and back of your CPR card to Ms. Elyse Markwitz at EMarkwitz@umaryland.edu.
Include in your email your name, email address and program.
If you do not have a valid CPR card you must attend the training course given during orientation.
Mandatory Clinical Training Requirement ▾
University of Maryland School of Dentistry students and residents are required to go through eLearning and pass assessments on specific topics related to their clinical responsibilities.
Training and certification must be submitted and completed in order to gain access to patient records and be on the clinic. This training must be completed by June 30, 2025. An 80 percent score or better is required on all assigned assessments to receive access to our Electronic Health Record system, Axium.
Specific training requirements and directions on how to access the material will be sent to you, via your UMB email after official course registration takes place.

Health Letters and Form
Resident Health Welcome Letter 2025 Please read the attached letter from the Office of Student and Employee Health. Instructions for UMB's vaccination submission will be sent to you in the coming weeks. If you have any questions or concerns, please feel free to contact that office at 667-214-1899.
Students who do not wish to retain the UMB Student Health Insurance Plan must file a waiver each academic year to have the charge removed from their tuition bill. One waiver is required each academic year without exception. Once a waiver is received and approved, the insurance charge is reversed on the semester bill. If no waiver is received, the charge will remain on the bill and the student will be enrolled in the UMB offered plan.
Health insurance information and instructions will be sent to you by the Office of Student Accounting.
Please note that you are required to be immunized for Hepatitis B before beginning any patient care activity. To ensure that your immunization status does not interfere with your academic schedule, you must provide Student and Employee Health with the appropriate documentation of immunization. If you are unable to provide documentation, you will be required to start the Hepatitis B immunizations series at Student and Employee Health during orientation.
Students enrolling in academic programs that will involve participating in invasive or exposure-prone procedures must be vaccinated against HBV at their own expense. Students may be vaccinated at Student and Employee Health. Those who were immunized prior to enrollment must provide evidence of immunization to the enrolling school. Please familiarize yourself with this policy.
Policies and Procedures
There will be a quiz on the Judicial Policy during orientation. It is important that you read the policy thoroughly in advance. The co-chairs will spend some time briefly reviewing the highlights of the policy for the quiz.
The signature page of the Judicial Policy should be signed and submitted during the Judicial Policy presentation at orientation.

Dental School Program Tuition and Fees ▾
You will receive a bill for tuition and fees for fall 2025. Your deposit has been credited to your account. This tuition bill will be mailed to you in June. Financial Aid awards will be credited to your account 10 days prior to the first day of class.
Loan deferral forms can only be processed after you have officially registered. Please see Mrs. Ellen Seed in Room 6423, Dean’s Suite - Office of Academic Affairs to complete the forms 410-706-7483 sodacademicaffairs@umaryland.edu
