Surbhi Sehgal, DMD, a senior resident in the Department of Oral and Maxillofacial Surgery at the University of Maryland School of Dentistry, has been selected for induction into the Gold Humanism Honor Society.

The honor, bestowed by the honor society’s chapter at the University of Maryland School of Medicine, is given in recognition of compassion, humanism and dedication to both patients and students.

Sehgal was selected by members of the University of Maryland, Baltimore Class of 2016 for induction.

Fourth year students choose up to six residents who have exhibited particularly strong teaching skills and are role models for compassionate, relationship-centered care, according to the School of Medicine website.

Dr. Sehgal said she was touched to have been selected for the honor because it reflects positively on her relationship with the students she works with. She said she prides herself in taking the extra time necessary to review cases with students and help them with their work.

“It’s a nice honor to get,” she said.
