Dental Hygiene B.S. Degree Completion Program News

‌Ms. Debra Dalonges, RDH, BS’15 , graduated May 2015  from the Degree Completion Bachelor of Science Dental Hygiene student in the Department of Advanced Oral Sciences and Therapeutics, Division of Dental Hygiene at the University of Maryland School of Dentistry.  Debra participated in the Special Olympics Special Smiles Program held on June 6th and conducted oral health screenings and  provided education, athletic mouth protectors, fluoride varnish and good bags of oral hygiene supplies at the 45th anniversary of the Maryland Summer Special Olympics games. Debra worked with University of Maryland School of Dentistry faculty, students, and dental and dental hygiene colleagues from the community in providing oral health services for the athletes.

Ms. Nancy Stannert, RDH, BS’14 , graduated May 2014  from the Degree Completion Bachelor of Science Dental Hygiene student in the Department of Periodontics, Division of Dental Hygiene at the University of Maryland School of Dentistry.  Nancy created a DVD training program that teaches nursing assistants in long-term care facilities how to provide oral care to residents. Ms. Stannert’s video was a year-long capstone project targeting her interest in public health, geriatrics, and addressing the many oral needs of individuals residing in long-term care facilities. As part of Nancy’s two-semester practicum, she was partnered with the Director of the Frederick County Health Department, an educational affiliate of the School of Dentistry, in Frederick County, Maryland who served as her mentor. Mr. Douglas Brotherton, Audio-Visual and Instructional Technology Specialist, in the UM School of Dentistry Office of Information Technology, provided his videography and educational media expertise in the production of the DVD.Ms. Nancy Stannert
