We study the vocal tract system, with a focus on the tongue and the structures that surround and support it: the mandible, palate and teeth. Our research includes the tongue’s motor control, muscle behaviors, internal and surface motion patterns. The tongue also shapes the vocal tract to make the complex tubes that create and shape the speech signal.
