The ADA’s Commission on Dental Accreditation (CODA) is the accrediting body for all dental schools in the United States. Every seven years (every five years for oral and maxillofacial surgery residency/fellowship programs), CODA reviews dental school performance against  published standards (http://www.ada.org/en/coda/current-accreditation-standards). Dental schools are expected to conduct a self-study analysis of their performance and submit this self-study report to CODA at least 60 days prior to CODA’s scheduled on-site review. The University of Maryland School of Dentistry is currently finalizing its self-study report and will submit it to CODA by the end of February. The school’s scheduled site visit is May 8-10, 2018, just a few short months away. In May, the school will be visited by a team of dental educators from around the nation, including 25-30 individuals with backgrounds in teaching, finances, clinical affairs, and each of the dental specialty areas, including dental hygiene.
