Welcome to the Department of Oncology and Diagnostic Sciences at the University of Maryland School of Dentistry. We are committed to excellence in dental education, research, and patient care by bringing together the academic foundation and clinical aspects of Oral Medicine, Oral and Maxillofacial Pathology, and Oral and Maxillofacial Radiology with innovative transdisciplinary research programs.

Research activity and training mainly concentrates on the pathobiology of oral potentially malignant and malignant conditions; tissue regeneration and repair; pathological angiogenesis; fungal pathogenesis and targeted therapeutics; dental management of medically compromised patients; and artificial intelligence models and deep learning image segmentation in oral and maxillofacial medicine, pathology and radiology.

The department offers an accredited three-year residency program in Oral and Maxillofacial Pathology with the option of pursuing a master’s or doctoral degree, and a postgraduate clinical fellowship program in Oral Medicine.

Services & Initiatives

  • Artificial Intelligence Research
