There is a parking fee of $9 for any visit over two hours with validation from treatment areas. Visits less than two hours will have a lower fee.
The Universities at Shady Grove Dental Clinic
The Shady Grove Dental Clinic and Patient Care Facility, housed in a state-of-the-art building with the latest dental technology, provides residents of Montgomery County and the greater Washington, DC area with the same comprehensive dental and emergency care as the clinics located at the School of Dentistry Baltimore campus.

Become a Patient at Shady Grove Oral Health Services
- You will be asked to arrive at least 30 minutes prior to your scheduled appointment in order to complete all necessary forms.
- Please expect to be with us for 3 hours for each appointment.
- We are not charging a deposit at this time.
- The initial evaluation will include a detailed medical and dental history, basic exam, and any necessary diagnostic X-rays.
- Information gathered at the admissions appointment will be used to determine which program can best provide your dental care. Assessment, not admissions—change throughout
Please bring the following to your first appointment:
- Photo identification as well as any dental and/or medical insurance information
- List of current medications and dosages
- Payment by cash, check, MasterCard, Visa, Discover credit or debit card
Children must not be left unattended in the clinic reception area and will not be permitted in clinical areas for their own safety and the safety of our patients. If you choose to bring children, please make certain that they have adequate supervision.

The Shady Grove patient care facility offers comprehensive dental care and emergency care, including

We do not currently offer:
- Bicuspid and Molar Root Canals
- Wisdom Teeth Extraction

Fees and Insurance
The Shady Grove patient care facility has a fee structure that is designed to be generally less than fees charged in private practice settings in our area because treatment is provided by students training to be dentists and dental hygienists. All treatment is provided under the direct supervision of faculty members who are licensed as a dentist or dental hygienist.

Appointments at Shady Grove
Appointments
Appointments are required. The Dental Clinic and Patient Care Facility does NOT accept walk-ins.
Dental Clinic and Patient Care Facility appointments can take longer than private dental practices. Dental students need to be thoughtful, thorough, and work slower to allow faculty dentists the opportunity to frequently check the progress of their procedures to ensure high quality care. Many patients choose UMSOD clinics because they believe it is worth spending the extra time in the educational, hands-on environment where they receive high quality care at significantly lower fees than most private practices.
If a patient has complex dental needs beyond the clinical experience of a student, they may be referred to a resident/graduate clinic, the UMSOD Faculty Practice, an alternative treatment facility, or a private practice. Residents who have graduated from a dental school can provide comprehensive care. Treatment fees are slightly higher, but the treatment time may be shorter.
Attendance
Appointment times are specifically reserved for each patient. If a change or cancellation is needed, please notify the clinic within 48 hours. Please be aware that treatment may be denied to patients who fail to show for TWO (2) appointments, come late, or have canceled several appointments.
Insurance
Generally, patients pay for treatment at the time of services, unless prior arrangements have been made. As a courtesy, the clinic will submit dental insurance claims to assist the patient with the maximum reimbursement to which they may be entitled. UMSOD will accept the insurance payments received and apply to patient balance. However, there is no guarantee of payment from the insurance company. Ultimately, please be aware, the full fee for treatment is the responsibility of the patient.
Parking
Dental Clinic and Patient Care Facility parking is located in the Traville Gateway Garage/Shady Grove Garage on levels 2 through 6. The garage is open 24 hours a day, 7 days a week. The rate is $4/hour or $9/day. Parking vouchers are available for appointments longer than two hours. NOTE: The Dental Clinic does NOT validate parking.
Patients can also be dropped off at the roundabout in front of the Biomedical Science and Engineering Building.
Upon entering the building from the main entrance, use the elevators on the left located across from the security desk. Take the elevator directly to the Dental Clinic reception area and waiting room on the 2nd floor.
