The Office of Organizational Wellness and Engagement (OWE) is committed to cultivating a campus environment where all students, faculty, staff, and patients feel valued, respected, and supported. What should I do if I’m struggling with adjusting to campus culture, equity, belonging, stress, professionalism, or interpersonal relationships? How do I get support for a bias incident?

If you are facing challenges related to respect, inclusion, stress, or interactions with others on campus, you are not alone—and we are here to help. We can provide training, and respond to incidents in an appropriate manner.

We encourage students, faculty, or staff members experiencing difficulties to schedule a confidential appointment with Dr. Dawn Roberts. These conversations are an opportunity to be heard, explore solutions, and identify strategies for navigating your unique situation in a supportive and respectful environment.

Absolutely. Prioritizing your well-being is one of the most important investments you can make in your academic, professional, and personal life.

We will work with you one-on-one to assess your current lifestyle, stress levels, and adaptive strategies. Together, you’ll explore practical ways to integrate wellness into your daily routine; from stress reduction techniques to time management and goal setting. Where are the all-gender bathrooms?

The all-gender bathrooms are located on the 4th floor past the patient waiting area in room 4318. Other all-gender bathrooms on campus can be found at this link: UMB All-Gender Bathrooms

 

Where are the lactation rooms located?

The lactation rooms at UMB can be found at this link: UMB Lactation Rooms. The School of Dentistry’s lactation rooms are located on the 3rd floor in room 3202 and is always open. It includes two Medela Symphony, multiple-user pumps, a fridge, and a sink. There is also a lactation pod available on the 5th floor right outside of the public elevators.

Food Insecurity Resources

UMB Food Pantry: UMB has a student food pantry the UMSOD students may take advantage of. It is located on the first floor of the SMC Campus Center.

SNAP: The Supplemental Nutrition Assistance Program (SNAP) helps low-income households buy the food they need for good health. Everyone has the right to apply for SNAP. 

SHARE Food Network: provides wholesome and nutritious food to families and individuals at a reduced cost. Through its community-based operation, SHARE promotes volunteer service and creates partnerships with organizations that serve as host sites.

BMore Kind Pet Food Bank: If you are experiencing temporary financial stress and are unable to pay for your pet’s food, you may be able to receive help from our Bmore Kind Pet Food Bank.

Orientation & Onboarding

The Office of Organizational Wellness and Engagement provides programming during orientation and other onboarding activities to help students transition successfully into dental school. These sessions introduce students to available wellness resources, academic support, and community-building opportunities.

Dental Residency Application Assistance

We offer individualized guidance to support students pursuing dental residencies and specialty careers. Services include one-on-one counseling focused on CV development, personal statement preparation, and strategies to help students stand out in competitive application processes. Students may also participate in mock interviews and receive specialty-specific guidance to help them achieve their professional goals.

Mindful Mondays & Wellness Wednesdays

Once each month, students are invited to participate in relaxing, stress-reducing activities designed to promote balance and community. Past activities have included bracelet making, pumpkin painting, crochet, creative arts, and collaborations with student organizations to encourage connection and well-being.

Wellness Week

Each year we host a week-long celebration dedicated to wellness and community engagement. Activities may include:
