Oral Pathology Consultants is the oldest pathology group in the state of Maryland specializing exclusively in the area of oral and maxillofacial pathology.
One of the pioneers of the specialty of Oral Pathology, and the first person to sit for the American Board of Oral Pathology, Dr. Myron Aisenberg, was the founder of our Biopsy Service. He started the first Oral Pathology Biopsy Service in Maryland and one of the first in the United States in the 1940s. The service began with a handful of Oral Surgeons from the school and the community contributing cases. Since then, the Oral and Maxillofacial Pathology Service has offered a consultation and tissue diagnostic and reporting service to the medical and dental communities and is currently serving nearly 2,000 practitioners and hospitals and surgical pathology laboratories throughout the Northeast region (including Maryland, Pennsylvania, Virginia, West Virginia, Florida, and North Carolina.)
Our affiliation with one of the top dental schools and pathology departments in the nation allows us to provide state-of-the-art services including standard tissue processing and staining.
The service, in the majority of cases, issues results 24-72 hours following the receipt of the specimen.

Note: Oral Pathology Consultants now offers direct immunofluorescence (DIF) services for suspected vesiculobullous diseases or other conditions. Due to limited shelf life, practices submitting tissues for DIF analysis must provide their own Michel’s solution.
