Panama may be thousands of miles from Baltimore, but the University of Maryland School of Dentistry was well-represented there during a gathering of oral health professionals.

When Douglas Barnes, DDS '83, MS, chairman of the Department of General Dentistry, made a presentation to a dental organization recently in Panama, he also had an opportunity to meet with School of Dentistry alumni who are oral health leaders in the Central American nation.

Dr. Barnes was one of three key test speakers January 16, 2016 for a gathering of the Asociacion Odontologica Panamena, Panama’s national dental association meeting. The others who presented with Dr. Barnes were Hal Crossley, DDS ’80, PhD, a longtime School of Dentistry faculty member, and Dennis Tarnow, DDS.

While in Panama, Dr. Barnes met with fellow University of Maryland School of Dentistry graduates and leaders in that nation’s oral health community, Armondo Berguido, ‘87 DDS, president of the Asociacion Odontologica Panamena; Eduardo Cabaleiro, ’87 Certificate AGD, vice president of the Asociacion, and Carlos Medina, Certificate AGD 2003, a member of the Asociacion.
