Division of General Dentistry

Students in the Department of General Dentistry work in the SIM lab

Division Director: Dr. Eve Desai
  • The Division of General Dentistry is based on the Group Practice model. The Predoctoral Clinic is divided into 8 group practices (GPs), each shared by two GP directors, who are responsible for approximately 16 third-year and 16 fourth-year students.
  • GP directors are responsible for developing the overall treatment plan for the patient, monitoring the student’s progress toward graduation, and providing direct patient care as needed.
  • GP directors also instruct, evaluate, and advise predoctoral students regarding comprehensive patient care and are responsible for chairside instruction in diagnosis and treatment planning.

The Division General Dentistry is actively involved in didactic and clinical integration for the entire duration of the pre-clinical and clinical years of predoctoral student education. Our problem-based learning approach constantly emphasizes critical thinking along with clinical application in the patient-care setting.
