Pediatric Dental Fellowship Program
The Division of Pediatric Dentistry at the University of Maryland School of Dentistry oversees a Pediatric Dental Fellowship program that provides direct clinical oral health care services to underserved Maryland children. The program is a School of Dentistry partnership with the Department of Health and Mental Hygiene’s Office of Oral Health, local health departments, and federally qualified health centers located throughout Maryland. The objective of the program is to place graduates of U.S. pediatric dental residency programs into public safety-net clinics to provide clinical oral health care services to needy children, especially those eligible for Medicaid.
The pediatric dental fellows commit two years to providing comprehensive clinical oral health care services three to four days a week, including care for children with special needs and behavioral problems. For the remainder of each week, the fellows teach or conduct research at the University of Maryland School of Dentistry. Fellows may attend case conference seminars, formal presentations, and other meetings with departmental faculty and residents. The program’s fellows also provide treatment in hospital operating rooms, exams at local Head Start centers, and oral health care education to Head Start parents.
By Maryland State law, Pediatric Dental Fellows who complete their two year experience are eligible for Maryland State License, after they take their appropriate Board examinations.

Pediatric Dentistry Fellowship Eligibility Requirements
- Completion of an ADA-approved two-year U.S./Canadian Pediatric Dental Residency Program
- DDS or DMD from approved U.S. or foreign dental school
*Please note that this program is not linked to the University of Maryland School of Dentistry Pediatric Dental Residency. Applicants to the Fellowship Program must have completed an accredited pediatric dental residency program in either the U.S. or Canada prior to application.
Salary: $87,030/year
