The Division of General Practice is based on the Group Practice model. The Predoctoral Clinic is divided into 8 group practices (GPs), each shared by two GP directors, who are responsible for approximately 16 third-year and 16 fourth-year students.
Division Director: Dr. Lisa D’Affronte D.D.S.
Lisa D’Affronte, DDS ’12, currently serves as assistant general practice director in the Department of Comprehensive Dentistry. She graduated from the University of Maryland School of Dentistry second in her class in 2012. She spent one year as a Diamond Scholar in the Advanced Education in General Dentistry clinic.
- GP directors are responsible for developing the overall treatment plan for the patient, monitoring the student’s progress toward graduation, and providing direct patient care as needed.
- GP directors also instruct, evaluate, and advise predoctoral students regarding comprehensive patient care and are responsible for chairside instruction in diagnosis and treatment planning.
Faculty Practice
The University of Maryland Faculty Practice offers quality dental care in an educational environment. Members of the Faculty Practice are full-time faculty at the School of Dentistry. Faculty members from each specialty are members of the U.M. FDSP clinic, and provide comprehensive services in one location. The Department of General Dentistry and Advanced Education in General Dentistry program both refer patients to the Faculty Practice.
