El Cercado, Dominican Republic
Diocese of Rockville Center in Long Island, N.Y.
In partnership with the Diocese of Rockville Center in Long Island, N.Y., participants will work in a small mountain town in the jungle of the Dominican Republic. The diocese has maintained a mission in El Cercado for more than 30 years. Students will perform high-volume dentistry in a rural clinic that serves residents of El Cercardo and farming families from 85 nearby villages. The town is surrounded by mountains and located near two national parks. It is only a short drive from Santa Cruz de Barahona, a coastal city famous for its ecotourism.
