More than 200 former students returned to their alma mater to celebrate and reconnect during the 2014 All Alumni Reunion Weekend from May 31 to June 1.

The opening reception on Friday evening was a momentous occasion, as Mark A. Reynolds, DDS '86, PhD, MA, addressed the audience as the newly appointed dean of the University of Maryland School of Dentistry (UMSOD). He thanked his fellow alumni for their dedication to the school. "I am confident that we will continue to grow the illustrious history that we have enjoyed. I'm proud to be a part of this future with you," Dean Reynolds remarked.

Alumni also recognized their outstanding colleagues, J. Roedel Jaeger, DDS '64, who was named the Distinguished Alumnus of the Year, and Betty Howard, RDH '83, who received the Linda DeVore Dental Hygiene Alumnus Award.

For Gilbert Palmieri, DDS '84, the opening reception was a great opportunity to catch up with old friends. "My fours years in dental school were such an important part of my life. Seeing everyone again, it feels like a family reunion," he states.

The reception reminded Barbara Steinberg, DDS '74, how important it is to stay connected with her alma mater. "The School of Dentistry has enabled me to have a very rewarding career. It's important to give back so others can have the same opportunities," states Steinberg.

Reunion activities continued on Saturday afternoon when alumni attended a complimentary ice-cream social. They learned about the facility and curriculum during tours of the school, and explored artifacts from dentistry's past at the Dr. Samuel D. Harris National Museum of Dentistry. Charles Parr, DDS '64, who celebrated his 50th reunion, was impressed by the novel learning environment at UMSOD. "The technology just blew me away. A lot of the things we saw in the Dream Room and simulation labs are things no one could have even imagined when we were in school," Parr says.

On Sunday morning, the Alumni Association held its annual business meeting. Barry Cohan, DDS '74, officially began his year-long term as president. He will serve with fellow officers Bradley Trattner, DDS '88, president-elect; Guy Alexander, DDS '82, immediate past-president; and Ron Carter, DDS '75, parliamentarian. Six new members were welcomed to the board: Ann Christopher, DDS '87, Adam Eisner, DDS '89, Jerry Kilian, DDS '81, Eric Kneussl, DDS '82, Barry Lyon, DDS '76, and Mary Ziomek, DDS '85. The reunion concluded on Sunday afternoon with a brunch and awards ceremony honoring the 50-year Class of 1964 and members of the Grand Classes.
