Olivia Oriani, DDS '14, received the Frank C. Jerbi Memorial Award, which is presented annually to a fourth-year student who shows exceptional skill in the area of removable partial prosthodontics. The recognition, which includes a $1,600 financial award, was presented to Oriani during An Evening with the Stars awards celebration on May 12. "I'm grateful to the donors who make this award possible. It is an honor to be recognized for my hard work," Oriani says.

Oriani enjoys prosthodontics because it is aesthetically-oriented and enables her to enhance a patient's smile. Her interest in aesthetics, and love of science, inspired the Kennett Square, Pa., resident to pursue a career in dentistry. While a dental student, Oriani enjoyed many opportunities for community service. Her dedication to give back motivated her to embark on a two-week dental mission trip to the Philippines, where she helped provide care for more than 2,000 underserved patients.

Now that she has graduated from the University of Maryland School of Dentistry, Oriani looks forward to completing a one-year general practice residency at the Baltimore Veterans Affairs Hospital. The Jerbi award will help reduce Oriani's student debt as she begins her dental career. The award was established in memory of Dr. Frank C. Jerbi, a former professor of removable prosthodontics.
