He continued his academic training and became an oral surgeon through a combined program from the University of Pennsylvania and Episcopal Hospitals.

Dr. Soliday has been a leader in the profession of dentistry, having held several national and state offices that include Speaker of the House of Delegates for the American Dental Association and for the American Association of Oral and Maxillofacial Surgeons; and past president of the Maryland State Dental Association, the Southern Maryland Dental Society and the Maryland State Society of Oral and Maxillofacial Surgeons. For six years, he served as an oral examiner for the American Board of Oral and Maxillofacial Surgery.

In 2011, Dr. Soliday received the American Association of Oral and Maxillofacial Surgeons Distinguished Service Award and the Maryland State Dental Association Distinguished Service Award. He is also the recipient of the District of Columbia Dental Society Humanitarian Award and the American Association of Oral and Maxillofacial Surgeons Community Service Award for his volunteer service on medical-dental missions to Honduras.

"The call about receiving the Distinguished Alumni Award greatly surprised and pleased me," said Dr. Soliday. "I have always been so proud to be a graduate of University of Maryland School of Dentistry. Because dentistry is such a wonderful profession, working to help protect it through organized dentistry has been my goal. It never occurred to me that I would be singled out this way with such a prestigious award. I am truly honored and humbled to receive this recognition."

Currently, Dr. Soliday is a Southern Maryland Dental Society delegate to the Maryland State Dental Association. He is also a senior attending staff member at the Washington Hospital Center and is in private practice in Gaithersburg, Md. Dr. Soliday is a member of the class of 1963 and celebrates his 50-year reunion this year. The Distinguished Alumnus Award will be presented to Dr. Soliday at the opening reception for the 2013 All Alumni Reunion on June 7.
