On Nov. 7, Fusion Dental Group donated $25,000 to the School of Dentistry to endow a scholarship for dental students. The award will be presented annually to a junior or senior dental student who displays teamwork skills, clinical excellence and leadership.

Those attributes are exactly the skills a graduate needs to excel in a group practice, remarks Gregory Bob, DDS, president of Fusion Dental. "We were all students at one time. We all feel strongly about helping current dental students and giving to the University of Maryland School of Dentistry," Dr. Bob states.

The new scholarship is timely, since UMSOD engages in group teaching efforts to foster a stronger sense of teamwork within the student body. The health care market continues to evolve, making collaboration vital for the future of dentistry, declares Dean Christian S. Stohler, DMD, DrMedDent. The School of Dentistry partners with other University of Maryland schools to promote interdisciplinary connections.

"Team spirit will become the model of dentistry in the 21st century. This gift is deeply appreciated. Hopefully, the scholarship will inspire our students to take teamwork even more seriously." Dean Stohler concludes.
