Merit Scholarship Winner Profile: Ashlie Davis, DDS '12

Written by Adam Zewe

Dean Christian S. Stohler congratulates Ashlie Davis, DDS '12, for earning two merit scholarships. Davis received Gaylord and Russell Gigliotti Memorial Student scholarships. Honored to be selected, she expresses gratitude to the donors who provided the awards.

Davis, of rural Calvert County, Md., chose to pursue a dental career due to her interest in science and health. She enjoys the challenging curriculum at UMSOD and is fascinated by the many different aspects of dentistry. Applying classroom lessons to patient care is very rewarding, states Davis. "I like building relationships with patients. I want them to feel so comfortable that they can call or text me when they have problems with their teeth," she remarks.

After graduation, Davis plans to enroll in a general practice or advanced general dentistry residency before establishing a private practice. The scholarships provide financial security, which make it more feasible for her to enter a residency immediately after graduation. The summer after graduation will be a busy one for Davis; she will marry John Seisman, DDS '12, on May 26. She looks forward to raising a family while beginning an exciting career. "Dentistry will be constantly challenging. There are always new techniques to learn and new patients who come with different situations," says Davis.

When she's not studying, Davis enjoys cooking, baking and hanging out with her fiance'. She also spends time visiting her sister, who is attending the U.S. Naval Academy in Annapolis.
