Merit Scholarship Winner Profile: Jason Marrazzo, DDS '13

Written by Adam Zewe

Dean Christian S. Stohler congratulates Jason Marrazzo, DDS '13, for earning a merit scholarship. Marrazzo expresses appreciation for the generous donations that made his award possible. "It is an honor to receive the Gaylord Scholarship. It's nice to have my hard work pay off," he says.

A native of Moscow, Pa., Marrazzo chose to pursue a dental career because of his passion for science. Dentistry also allows him to help people live healthier lives. He especially enjoys being able to meet and treat a diverse group of patients. "Usually, there is something I can do right away to get them out of pain. I can stop a problem in its tracks," remarks Marrazzo.

After graduation, Marrazzo considers pursuing an oral surgery residency. The scholarship he earned will make postgraduate education more affordable, he says. Eventually, he plans to establish a private practice in the Baltimore area. Independence is a priority for Marrazzo, who looks forward to being his own boss. He harbors a passion for community service and plans to help underserved patients throughout his career.

When he is not focused on school work, Marrazzo enjoys playing golf, flag football and basketball. He also spends time volunteering with Habitat for Humanity.
