Merit Scholarship Profile: Matthew Kruszewski, DDS '12

Written by Adam Zewe

Dean Christian S. Stohler congratulates Matthew Kruszewski, DDS '12, for earning a merit scholarship. Kruszewski, who received a Russell Gigliotti Memorial Student Scholarship, feels honored that his academic achievements were recognized. "The funds allow me to have a less stressful experience in school as I transition into private practice," he remarks.

Kruszewski, a Gaithersburg native, enrolled at UMSOD because he thought dentistry would be a challenging career. He enjoys the autonomy of the dental profession and appreciates working with his hands. "I like being presented with a challenge and thinking of ways to solve it. Successful problem solving gives me a sense of pride," states Kruszewski.

After graduation, he plans to enter a general practice residency to gather more experience treating patients in a hospital setting. He is also interested in pursuing an endodontics residency. Kruszewski enjoys endodontics because it involves challenging diagnoses and meticulous treatment. He is grateful for the scholarship, which will allow him to incur less debt as he completes postgraduate education.

In his spare time, Kruszewski enjoys juggling, boomeranging, playing table tennis, listening to high-quality audio and tasting unique foreign food.
