Hoffman Named Employee of the Month

Written by Adam Zewe

The Dental School congratulates Bill Hoffman, who is the January, 2011, Employee of the Month for the University of Maryland, Baltimore campus. University President Dr. Jay A. Perman presented Mr. Hoffman with the award during a Jan. 31 ceremony. He was nominated by Department Chairman Dr. Ashraf Fouad, and faculty members Dr. Huakun Xu, Dr. Gary Hack and Dr. Eric Levine. Mr. Hoffman is a champion of the faculty, providing support and helping faculty members manage all available resources, says Dr. Levine.

Mr. Hoffman has been employed at the dental school for nearly three years, though he has worked in the University of Maryland system for the past 15 years. As administrator of the Endodontics, Prosthodontics and Operative Dentistry Department, Mr. Hoffman manages day-to-day operations, which includes overseeing financial accounts, solving facility issues and acting as a resource for faculty members. His job involves a wide variety of tasks, from ordering new phones to preparing and tracking grant spending. He enjoys the work because it presents many different challenges.

He further supports the dental school by serving as the representative to the staff senate. Mr. Hoffman lives in White Marsh with his wife, Cheryl. They have two children and a 5-year-old grandchild. In his spare time, Mr. Hoffman enjoys movies and theater, church activities, sports and travel. A proud Eagle Scout, Mr. Hoffman remains active with the Boy Scouts of America by volunteering as a committee chairman and merit badge counselor.
