mission

The mission of the Office of Information Technology is to provide the best possible service to the faculty, staff and students at the University of Maryland School of Dentistry.
We maintain and support one of the most technologically advanced clinical management systems in the world. We have implemented the latest chair technology from Planmeca and the latest digital x-ray technology from Planmeca and ICAT.

We are a leader in the use of advanced technology to educate our students. We use Mediasite to capture all of our faculty lectures so that students can access these lectures 24 hours a day 7 days a week. We use QuestionMark software for exam administration. This provides immediate results to our students and faculty. We offer WebEx sessions to enhance the distance education students’ online experience. Most lectures are also made available on iTunes University.

We have developed the first virtual School of Dentistry in the world using Second Life. Dental Hygiene students are using this technology to improve their chair side patient interaction.

We are leveraging our state of the art network to provide: VOIP phone service, RFID tracking of key assets, communications to security cameras throughout the building and content to our new digital signage.

We provide support to over 1,200 personal computers in Baltimore, Perryville and College Park using LANDesk. All students have a standard laptop to help them have the best educational experience possible.

We participated in the designing and building of a new dental clinic in Perryville. This clinic has the latest technology available and leverages the network and servers located in Baltimore. A new electronic patient record has been developed for Perryville and the faculty, staff and students say it is a great improvement. The paperless record allows for easy consultation from specialists located at our Baltimore location.

We continue to look for technology that will move us forward and keep us in the forefront of dental education.
