Speaker Biography:

Dr. Miyashita

Dr. Miyashita received his DDS from Nihon University School of Dentistry in Tokyo in 1975. He completed training programs in oral surgery and orthodontics before earning a PhD in anatomy from Nihon University. Dr. Miyashita established his private orthodontics practice in Tokyo in 1983. He served as visiting professor at the University of California at Los Angeles School of Dentistry from 1982 to 1933 and continues to serve as adjunct professor at Case Western Reserve University School of Dentistry and director of the Foundation of Maxillo-Facial Research in Tokyo. Dr. Miyashita has published numerous articles in dental literature and lectured internationally on orthodontic topics.pp

Course Description:

Cephalometrics is one of the most important basic tools for case diagnosis and the review of cases, not only in dentistry but also in medicine. Most orthodontists learned a lot about lateral cephalograms but little about P-A cephalograms during school. Now, as more practitioners move into the contemporary digital three-dimensional era (CBT images), there is a need for orthodontists to know how to identify and digitize each landmark accurately, because landmarks carry information that must be correctly interpreted. CBCT images allow practitioners to get more accurate landmarks.

This course provides attendees with the necessary anatomical tracing skills, especially skills at defining landmarks on Lateral and P-A cephalograms with accuracy, including the major frontal analyses and the usage of CBCT.
Course Objectives:

Upon completion of this course, the participants should be able to:

  • Know how to find bony landmarks
  • Perform basics in some analyses
  • Understand how to relate 2D (classic) images to 3D (CBCT) images

Each participant will be given a tracing manual (CBCT images).
