|President Ngoc Chu, DDS '88|
Dr. Chu earned his bachelor’s degree from UMBC in 1984 and completed his DDS and postgraduate prosthodontics training at UMSOD in 1988 and 1990, respectively. He currently works in private practice in Bethesda, Md. Dr. Chu will serve as president of the Alumni Association Board of Directors from 2012-2013.
A native of Vietnam, Dr. Chu has traveled extensively to provide free dental care to underserved populations in the U.S. and abroad. He has provided volunteer services to patients in a Navajo reservation, as well as in the Philippines, Vietnam, Cambodia, Laos and Egypt. Dr. Chu is also the founding member of My-Hope.org, a nonprofit organization that promotes medical and dental care to underserved populations worldwide.
Dr. Chu is a member of the American Dental Association, the Maryland State Dental Association, the Southern Maryland Dental Society and an associate member of the American College of Prosthodontics. He is currently president-elect of the Association of Vietnamese American Dentists. He earned Fellowship in the American College of Dentists in 2003, the Academy of Dentistry International in 2005 and the Pierre Fauchard Academy in 2009. He currently serves as president of the Maryland State Board of Dentistry.
