About the Program

Objectives

To provide a historical perspective of prosthodontics in a manner which will permit and encourage the student to make objective evaluations.

To provide a comprehensive background of those biologic and allied sciences relevant to diagnosis, planning and treatment of routine and complex prosthodontic problems.

To provide clinical treatment experiences in the various aspects of prosthodontics with emphasis upon attainment of skills and judgment in treating complex problems.

To prepare the candidate for examination by the American Board of Prosthodontics.

To prepare the candidate for teaching at predoctoral or postgraduate levels.

Scope of Training

The program is designed to prepare the resident to treat complex prosthodontic patients. Through an abundance of patients, the resident will treat many patients requiring fixed, removable, implants and/or maxillo-facial prostheses. Training is provided in the clinical, laboratory, and basic sciences, which will give the graduate the basis to be successful in a clinical or academic setting. Preparation for attainment of board certification is provided through patient care, weekly review sessions, and two mock boards annually.

Instruction in preparing quality lectures and clinical coverage in the undergraduate clinic is provided. The David Wands teaching fellowship ($ 10,000) is available for selected residents.

Research is required and may lead to a Master Degree.       In addition, training grants are available for qualifying students who wish also to pursue a PhD degree

Students must have acceptable scholastic achievement at the predoctoral level.
Apersonal interview and references are required.
National Board Exam results are highly recommended.
