The University of Maryland Prosthodontic Residency offers a two-week externship program in the University of Maryland Dental School in Baltimore, Maryland. The objectives of this externship program are: 1. expose junior and senior dental students to the full scope of Prosthodontics at the specialty level 2. help students understand the process of residency education and training in Prosthodontics 3. expose students from other dental school to the University of Maryland Dental School and the Prosthodontic Residency Students selected for the externship come for a designated two-week period during which they observe the current residents in the clinic and participate in the seminars that are scheduled during their time at the University of Maryland’s Dental School. Activities will include the observation of residents treating the complex needs of patients requiring fixed, removable, and maxillofacial prostheses as well as spending time with the residents in the laboratory. During seminars, the externs are expected to participate in all reading requirements and discussions. Each resident will be expected to give a short presentation during their externship on a prosthodontic topic and participate in a laboratory exercise fabricating a metal-ceramic crown. The University of Maryland Prosthodontic Residency has ten residents with eleven faculty members. These include eight Diplomates of the American Board of Prosthodontics, two with training in Maxillofacial Prosthetics, one with an Implant Fellowship Training, and one with a Master’s in Craniofacial Pain. Interested students must submit: 1. Curriculum vitae or resume 2. Letter of recommendation from a Prosthodontist at their school 3. Dental School transcript 4.
