Internship Program
Oral-Maxillofacial Surgery

The internship in Oral and Maxillofacial Surgery at the University of Maryland was difficult and pushed me beyond my limits every day.  Without this experience, I would not have had all the opportunities to continue my career in oral surgery.  I owe everything to the lessons I learned during my time at the University of Maryland Medical Center.

Internship Graduate 2010

Overview

This is a one-year internship at the University of Maryland Medical Center, Department of Oral and Maxillofacial Surgery. The responsibilities of the intern are identical to those of the categorical first year residents; including clinical and didactic responsibilities. This includes call at the R Adams Cowley Shock Trauma Center, a robust implant experience, participation in OR cases, and staffing outpatient dentoalveolar clinics. The patient management experience you will gain from the variety of conditions treated in our unit will be invaluable as you continue to pursue a career in oral-maxillofacial surgery. A well rounded didactic schedule (including a physical diagnosis course) compliments the clinical experience at Maryland. Salary is at the PGY-1 level.

How Do I Apply?
Interested students should send:

  • A letter recommending the student for the internship from a full time faculty member or the Chair of Oral-Maxillofacial Surgery at the student's school

  • A dental school transcript

  • The results of Part I of the National Dental Boards (must be an original)

  • Provide a curriculum vitae or resume
