Richard J. Manski D.D.S. M.B.A. Ph.D. 

mission

Richard J. Manski, earned his D.D.S. at Howard University, his M.B.A. at the University of Massachusetts and his Ph.D. at the University of Maryland. He is a Professor at the Dental School University of Maryland. Dr. Manski has established a nationally recognized expertise in data analyses, oral health services research, and oral health policy. Dr. Manski conducts research in health care finance, third party reimbursement and access to care. He is also a member of the Dental Economics Advisory Group and was a member of the Committee on the Future of Dentistry for the American Dental Association. He is a reviewer for several peer-reviewed professional journals including the American Journal of Public Health, the Journal of the American Dental Association and the Journal of Public Health Dentistry.  Currently, Dr. Manski is serving as a senior scholar at the Agency for Healthcare Research and Quality (AHRQ). As a senior scholar, Dr. Manski provides advice to AHRQ staff on issues related to measuring dental care expenditures, interpretation of dental health insurance benefits and methods for enhancement of subsequent waves within longitudinal MEPS studies. In addition, he provides substantive input into the development of MEPS survey instruments related to health insurance benefits for oral health care and into the editing and imputation of MEPS survey data related to use, source, expenditures and health insurance benefits for oral health care. Dr. Manski also provides technical assistance and advice to the oral health community on issues related to dental care expenditures, dental benefit and dental utilization data. Dr. Manski has conducted analyses on and is fluent in the use of several nationally representative data sets including the 1986 and 1989 National Health Interview Surveys (NHIS), the 1977 National Medical Care Expenditure Survey, the 1987 National Medical Expenditure Survey and the Medical Expenditure Panel Survey. As a result of these analyses, Dr. Manski has published a number of papers on matters that relate to dental health care finance, third party reimbursement for dental care and access to dental care.
