Mark D Macek DDS, DrPH

Dr. Macek joined the faculty in the Department of Health Promotion and Policy (formerly Department of Oral Health Care Delivery) in 1998. He earned a DDS from the University of Nebraska Medical Center College of Dentistry (1989), an MPH from the University of Illinois at Chicago (1994), and a DrPH. from the University of Michigan (1998). In addition to his formal education, Dr. Macek completed a general practice residency (Illinois Masonic Medical Center in Chicago, 1989-1991) and a dental research fellowship (West Side VA Medical Center in Chicago, 1991-1993). Between 1996 and 1998, Dr. Macek also served in the CDC's Epidemic Intelligence Service, stationed at the National Center for Health Statistics in Hyattsville, MD. While in the EIS program, he became proficient analyzing large national data files, including the National Health Interview Survey and National Health and Nutrition Examination Survey. Dr. Macek's current research interests include access to care, oral health disparities, dental caries surveillance, and health literacy. Dr. Macek is a Diplomate of the American Board of Dental Public Health and holds licenses to practice dentistry in Maryland and Illinois. He currently serves as Director of the Dental School’s Office of Instructional Evaluation..
