Dental Hygiene B.S. Degree Completion Program News
Ms. Nancy Stannert, RDH, BS’14 , a graduating May 2014 Degree Completion Bachelor of Science Dental Hygiene student in the Department of Periodontics, Division of Dental Hygiene at the University of Maryland School of Dentistry created a DVD training program that teaches nursing assistants in long-term care facilities how to provide oral care to residents. Ms. Stannert’s video was a year-long capstone project targeting her interest in public health, geriatrics, and addressing the many oral needs of individuals residing in long-term care facilities. As part of Nancy’s two-semester practicum, she was partnered with the Director of the Frederick County Health Department, an educational affiliate of the School of Dentistry, in Frederick County, Maryland who served as her mentor. Mr. Douglas Brotherton, Audio-Visual and Instructional Technology Specialist, in the UM School of Dentistry Office of Information Technology, provided his videography and educational media expertise in the production of the DVD.
