Phase I: Preprofessional May be completed at any accredited college or university. All Phase I courses must be completed by the end of the spring semester prior to the fall entry into the Phase II curriculum. | To be considered for admission, students should have completed the majority of the preprofessional curriculum, including a minimum of 16 (20 is highly recommended) credits of the required science courses, by the end of December prior to the academic year for which they are applying. All coursework must be completed by the end of spring semester 2009 to be eligible for entry into the Dental Hygiene program. Students should begin to send their applications starting November 1 and no later than February 15, 2009 for admission to Phase II for fall admission. Although the recommended minimum grade point average for Phase I is 2.9, preference in admission is given to students with high scholastic averages, especially in the sciences. Entry-level students are required to observe a registered dental hygienist who is presently working in private practice for a minimum of 8 hours to increase awareness and knowledge of the profession prior to applying for the Dental Hygiene Program. Please note that the application deadline is February 15, 2009. Applications that are incomplete after the deadline will not be considered. Applications for the entry-level program are reviewed using the following criteria: completeness of application, completion of required courses, GPA of required science courses, overall GPA of required courses, overall academic record (including repeats, failures, withdrawals, etc.), personal statement, professional demeanor, interest and knowledge of the dental hygiene profession, and quality of recommendation letters. |
