The dual degree programs build on the School's tradition of attracting and cultivating high-caliber dental students. Their experience at the University of Maryland School of Dentistry has prepared them for new opportunities around the country. There are two Dual Degree programs offered at the University of Maryland:
DOCTOR of Dental Surgery masters programs The DDS/MS Program is designed to prepare outstanding clinical scientists, thoroughly versed in clinical research or public health and capable of addressing significant problems in oral health. Students can choose a Masters in Clinical Research or a Masters in Public Health and graduate with the DDS-MSCR or DDS-MPH. The master's degree adds an additional year so that students graduate with both degrees in five years. The timeline and other details are explained on this web page. To Apply Applicants interested in the combined DDS Programs must be first admitted to the DDS Program at the University of Maryland, School of Dentistry. If you have applied to the DDS program and you are interested in the combined degree program, you are asked to complete on-line Pre-Application Form. Outstanding applicants will be invited to complete a second application after matriculation, submitted at anytime during the first two years of dental school. DOCTOR OF DENTAL SURGERY phd program The DDS/PhD Program is designed to prepare outstanding clinical and basic biomedical scientists, thoroughly versed in the science underlying clinical practice and capable of identifying and addressing significant problems in oral health. The PhD adds three to four additional years so that students graduate with both degrees in seven to eight years.
