The entry-level program offers direct patient care within the school of dentistry under dental hygiene faculty plus the opportunity to experience other aspects of dental care. Our students experience patients in an array of special needs areas to give students a well rounded educational foundation.
Unique to the entry level B.S. program are opportunities for students to choose to attend our program at two additional sites, home to our satellite programs. We are proud to have two programs on the Eastern Shore and in Perryville. Satellite students complete their clinical coursework at their sites with UM Dental Hygiene faculty, and complete their coursework online with the faculty here at the School of Dentistry. Our program is also a hybrid-type online program, meaning our courses have online components along with classroom attendance, live clinics and live lab sessions.
The Dental Hygiene Entry Level Program is a 2+2 program, which means our students complete 57 pre-requisite credits (freshman and sophomore years of college) at an accredited college or university of their choice and complete their remaining 63 credits of core dental hygiene credits (junior and senior year) here at the University of Maryland School of Dentistry, either on a full-time basis (two years) or a part-time basis (three years) depending on the students needs and desires of study.
