Wednesday, April 16 from noon until 1 p.m. in room G-307

Computer technology is becoming an integral part of the practice of dentistry. Dental schools should embrace and actively shape the application of these digital developments. Curriculum responsiveness to advances in science and technology must rely on sound research principles to effectively disseminate best practices and develop strategic objectives for implementation.

As advances in technology continue to enrich the practice of dentistry, the enhanced visualization that CAD/CAM technology provides may promote a student’s ability for self-assessment. Difficulties in assessing a student’s preparation can be overcome by using the analyzing tools in the CAD/CAM software which can calculate physical qualities and provide an objective status of the student’s performance based on faculty defined parameters. An objective evaluation is important for the acquisition of clinical skills and to develop an understanding of the basic principles in tooth preparation.
