Core Imaging Facility has moved to room 696, Howard Hall since February, 2013.

All instrument are fully operational.  We have resumed sample processing and accepting new projects.

The Core Imaging Facility (CIF) is relocated to room 696, Howard Hall, 660 West Redwood Street. The facility provides electron microscopy related research and imaging services to all faculty and staff of the University of Maryland campus and the academic and industrial community in the Washington D.C. and Baltimore areas. TheCIFis jointly sponsored by the School of Dentistry and the School of Medicine and overseen by a steering committee consisting of faculty members from both schools.

The services available include:

  • TEM related research projects including negative staining, resin embedding and ultrathin sectioning, etc.
  • SEM related research projects including dehydration, critical point drying or cryo samplepreparation.
  • Advanced cryo-sample preparation for both TEM and SEM including high pressure freezing, freeze substituion, cryo-ultramicrotomy and plunge freezing.
  • Advanced microscopy techniques, such as cryoEM, immunoEM, correlative LM/EM  and 3D EM for pilot studies.
  • Electron microscopes imaging for trained or novice users.
  • Supporting equipment usage.
  • Education, consultation and training

All services are designed to fit your research requirement.

All services are available to anyone, academic or private users, with an interest in electron microscopy.
